Real Men wear Pink… and Makeup?

Before - No Makeup

Before - No Makeup

My younger brother is the epitome of metrosexual. He’s handsome, fit and very stylish; he often takes longer than me to get ready, and he never leaves the house unless every hair is in place. I needed a male model so I could get my feet wet with male makeup, so who better to ask than my brother? Well, unfortunately he decided to move out to Alberta – so I had to scramble looking for a male model who would be man enough to let me do their makeup. A friend of mine stepped up to the plate, and actually enjoyed every minute of his makeover. Male makeup isn’t like female makeup – you don’t want to make the man look ‘pretty’ nor do you want to take away from the darkness or roughness that makes them manly. So boys, don’t be scared of looking a little bit more polished on big days (think weddings, big parties etc) – it doesn’t make you less of a man.

My Inner Fashionista

I never thought the day would come where my work has been quoted in someone else’s blog! December has been a crazy month for me – and I apologize for hardly having any new content… but this has made my day! The author of my My Inner Fashionista rather enjoyed my winged eyeliner look and wrote about it in her blog. Although my credit is in a tiny link that brings the reader back to my blog, I feel that it’s something! Please read her blog and enjoy!

Au Naturel…

Tarte - The Jewellery Box

Tarte - The Jewellery Box

So I’ve never actually worried about the chemicals that are in makeup until a colleague of mine (a grade 8 ethics teacher) gave me a list of harsh chemicals that are used in makeup – and I freaked! I always knew that makeup wasn’t good for your face – but I never realized the extent of chemicals in some brands. I kept this in mind while I was shopping at Sephora last weekend (with my $20 VIB coupon of course), and came across the Tarte brand. Recently I’ve heard a lot about this line from other makeup artists, so I decided to check it out. I spoke to the sales woman at Sephora, and she uses products from this line as well (maybe she was buttering me up – who knows, but it worked!). She went on and on ranting and raving about the brand – I was sold (good job!). I settled on the Tarte Jewellery box from their new holiday collection – and I am in love. Not only does it not contain any harsh chemicals which are bad for your face – but it also helps you draft up hundreds of gorgeous looks! I’ve been wearing something from this huge palette every day since I bought it (so worth the money).

The eyeshadows are soft and blend-able with amazing pigment, the highlight is standard, I haven’t used the bronzer because it’s a little too light for my skin tone – but I have been using the lip glosses as… (drum roll please)… cream blushes! I love the way they glide on so smooth, and because they are natural it’s not bad for your skin.

So ladies, why not get yourself an early gift this holiday season and pick up one of these palettes. They’re amazing and you will get your money’s worth – and more importantly you deserve it!

In the Boudoir

Before - No Makeup

Before - No Makeup

With the recent release of Burlesque – a lot of focus has been shifted back to boudoir inspired makeup (think Dita Von Teese). I haven’t seen the movie – but from the previews the face is very pale, lips are extremely red, cheeks are bare and the eyes are very defined in the crease and lashes – which is what inspired today’s look.
This is such a fun and sexy look – it oozes with sensuality. Not only would is be perfect for Halloween (think October 2011) but tone down the lips (or leave them red!) and it’s a perfect Holiday look.
So don’t be scared to experiment – have fun with makeup and try different looks. I’m sure many of you would be surprised at how you feel after trying something that is out of your comfort zone.
